When I first moved to Bethesda, Maryland, I started noticing all these development notice signs. I was impressed; seemed like good management of public issues.
Recently, however, I actually took the time to read one of the notices. It posted a message about a meeting taking place in January 2007:
I took a picture of the sign in August 2009, and since the sign was presumably posted prior to the meeting, I'd venture to guess that the sign has been there for roughly three years.
I wonder how many other signs I've seen are this old?
NOTE: Although this is a "Bethesda Notes" blog, the sign was in Rockville - gasp!

If the sign is that old, the construction is probably on hold. You can sometimes search for the application number and come up with some of the planning documents. In this case, PDP2005-0010 turns up this agenda which says "Gables Rockville, LLC, a proposal to redevelop four properties on Rockville Pike with 446 multi-family residential units and 75,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space at 1450,1470,and 1488 Rockville Pike." You can also get the full plan from this pdf file. It doesn't look like there was any activity after that.
